What The F Have I Been Shooting?
What the F have I been shooting? That is the question I was left with after my trip to the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Not relevant information but I’m currently sitting in a Panda Express line that is not moving at all. When I first got to Panda I knew it was going to take a minute but not this long regardless I pulled out my camera to look at the video and pictures I got during my first trip to the dmv area. The pictures from the Smithsonian American Art Museum caught my eye almost immediately. Starring at the paintings, sculptures, and photographs I realized a big problem about my own work. I AM NOT TELLING A STORY WITHIN THE IMAGE. I’m a decent photographer and although I’m not great yet I have developed my lighting, composition and editing skills to a point where I can capture consistently good photos. But what keeps me from that next level is I’m lacking the ability to tell a story. One reason I feel this way is because I would would say my style has recently shifted to be more commercially friendly versus artistic. Im not sure what caused this shift but I don’t like it. I want to create art not just a aesthetically pleasing picture. Honestly all I can do is continue to study art and practice my skills my goal is to learn how to tell a narrative within a single image. Id rather have 1 great image you remember forever because it means something versus 100 great ones that you forget cause they don’t mean anything. Regardless the line is moving so this is the end of this thought.
Also, I can’t lie with the blogs I do my best, but I typically just type and post I don’t do to much editing. So, any punctuation, spelling errors and grammar issues I apologize for in advance!
